You see them everywhere and read about them, Electric Cars are the future without a doubt. It just makes sense. But a lot of people are still very skeptical about switching from the gas cars to and EV. Are they worth it? Well, it really depends on your situation. First, not all EVs are made equally. The leader in the EV industry is definitely Tesla. In states that have a higher adoption of EVs, Tesla dominance is obvious. As you drive on any highway Tesla is everywhere. From being some of the best selling cars around the world, to world class repair and warranty process, these guys know what they are doing. This is due to Tesla being in the EV business for so long now. June 22, 2012 was the date Tesla Model S debuted and became available for consumers. Now it’s 2024 and Tesla has been at it for 12 years. Other manufacturer entered the EV game very recently, in the past two to three years and that is the reason so many recalls and technical issues are being recorded and reported from Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes and other EV market hopefuls. It takes years to nail down processes and work out mechanical kinks in car design. It takes more than just money and an example of that is Fisker, a California EV start-up that was once valued at over two billion dollars, recently going bankrupt and getting out of the EV business once and for all. A Model 3 Tesla is now very affordable, but is it right for you? Well, that depends on your driving habits. For long trips, EV’s are still more complex than gas cars. In Southern California, Tesla Supercharges are everywhere, so planning a 200 mile trip can be reasonable, but in other parts of United States, you may want to stick with a gas car for long hauls. For city driving however, and for those people that have the ability to charge at home, Electric Cars can definitely be advantageous. Let’s take a Tesla Model 3 for a example, you can pick up a lightly used one for $25K, it charges over night and goes 300 miles on a charge. If you have solar at home, it’s a no brainer, you have to get one. The gas savings that I personally enjoy with my EV is over $8000 per year, now that’s a nice vacation you can enjoy every year just from saving on gas. But in a case of Tesla, gas is not the only benefit. Besides saving thousands on gas and not inhaling poisonous fumes, the car it self it terrific, it’s a pleasure to drive, packed with features and all around built around the driver. So in the end, is an EV right for you? Yes, if you drive mainly in town and have the ability to charge at home, absolutely do go for an EV. If you take longer drives, 100+ miles at a time, see where the chargers are and if the chargers are along your path, an EV may still be an option for you. Another thing to consider is the Tesla Supercharger network, it is the most superior charging network in the world. Cars charge faster and comparing to an average two station charger, Superchargers have 20-50 slots per location to charge your car. So to wrap up, buy any EV, just make sure it’s a Tesla.
