Hennessey Venom F5 arrives with $2.1M price tag and 1,817 horsepower, aims for 311 mph – Motor Authority

The following challenger within the race to interrupt the production-car land-speed document and blow previous 300 mph has arrived from Sealy, Texas, through Silverstone, England. Like every thing in 2020, it is sophisticated.

On Tuesday, Hennessey Particular Autos (HSV), a brand new firm that’s separate from Hennessey Efficiency Engineering’s modification enterprise, revealed the primary of 24 manufacturing Venom F5 hypercars. With 1,817 horsepower, a race-car like cockpit, and a claimed 334-mph high velocity, the Venom F5 is out to show a group in Texas can construct a world-beating hypercar.

VIN 01 of 24 was accomplished on Nov. 27 in Silverstone. The Pace Satan Blue Venom F5 will arrive at Hennessey’s headquarters in January with last calibrations to be accomplished shortly thereafter. It’s anticipated to go to its proprietor in Montana subsequent summer season.

The Venom F5 is powered by a twin-turbo 6.6-liter pushrod V-Eight that makes a whopping 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 pound-feet of torque. It’s hooked to a CIMA 7-speed single-clutch automated guide transmission. The redline is 8,500 rpm, however the engine is electronically restricted to eight,200 rpm exterior of a novel F5 mode.

Energy is distributed to the rear wheels by a mechanical limited-slip rear differential, and the final-drive ratio is 3.167:1. Full energy isn’t accessible always; it’s solely unleashed in F5 mode and at 140-plus mph as firm president John Hennessey advised Motor Authority that is the purpose at which the automotive has sufficient traction to totally use the facility. It is unclear how a lot energy will probably be accessible beneath 140 mph as soon as calibrations have been accomplished in early 2021.

Venom F5s may have 5 drive modes: Sport, Moist, Observe, Drag, and F5. Every mode will change the steering weight, energy supply, shift factors, and calibrations for the ABS, traction management, and digital stability management. Solely F5 will unlock the total 1,817 horsepower however solely after consumers discover ways to use it.

“With nice energy comes nice duty,” Hennessey mentioned. Each Venom F5 proprietor might want to attend and full a one-day F5 driver-training program to obtain an F5 license and unlock F5 mode. The F5 faculty is included within the automotive’s buy worth and can happen at Hennessey’s personal check monitor subsequent to the Venom F5 manufacturing facility in Sealy, Texas.

Hennessey mentioned the hypercar will run from Zero to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds, however that is traction restricted. The F5 is able to operating from Zero to 186 mph in 8.Four seconds and Zero to 249 mph in 15.5 seconds, in line with Hennessey. Prime velocity is quoted at over 311 mph, however Hennessey advised Motor Authority it is geared for 334 mph. “To be clear, we’re not meaning to try to run that type of velocity even when the automotive might need the aptitude,” Hennessey mentioned.

Validation testing will start in February. Hennessey believes the F5 Venom would possibly hit 290-300 mph on NASA’s 3.2-mile runway.

Brian Smith, the director at Ford’s Efficiency Driving College and a former Michelin tire testing engineer, drove the Venom GT Spyder to 265.6 mph in 2016 and would be the sizzling shoe for the Venom F5’s high-speed runs. Hennessey mentioned the Venom F5 would possibly make a top-speed run on a closed Texas freeway in 2021. The high-speed runs will probably be carried out in buyer vehicles.

The F5 is constructed round a carbon-fiber monocoque that weighs simply 189 kilos. A double-wishbone unbiased suspension sits in any respect 4 corners with Penske adjustable coil-over dampers. An electrical energy steering system was chosen as an alternative of a hydraulic setup as a consequence of packaging and simplification. A staggered set of solid aluminum wheels are wrapped in 265/35R19 entrance and 345/30R20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The brakes are massive, however not huge. They encompass 15.35-inch carbon-ceramic brake rotors in any respect 4 corners with 6-piston entrance calipers and 4-piston rear calipers.

In whole, the automotive weighs 2,998 kilos, giving the Venom F5 a power-to-weight ratio of 1,298 hp per ton or an incredible 0.61 hp per pound.

Hennessey plans to carry out testing on the Venom F5 at Circuit of the Americas and run the hypercar across the Nürburgring. Hennessey mentioned the Venom F5 ought to run a sub 7-minute lap across the ‘Ring, however no ‘Ring document try is deliberate.

Hennessey unveiled the Venom F5 design buck at Pebble Seaside in 2017 and mentioned the automotive would have a price ticket of $1.6 million. That worth climbed to $1.Eight million for anybody who hadn’t locked of their order in January 2020. Now, the value has climbed to $2.1 million for the 12 remaining construct slots.

The outside design, which Hennessey mentioned was impressed by the McLaren F1, hasn’t modified a lot from the 2017 design buck. We see some Ferrari and McLaren within the design with the low entrance finish and rising beltline, however the particulars are distinctive to the Venom F5. The carbon-fiber tub is partially uncovered, and the rear options CNC-machined carbon-fiber mesh.

Hennessey designed the Venom F5 in-house, whereas the engineering was carried out in partnership with Delta Motorsport in England. Aerodynamics have been dealt with by TotalSim out of the UK. Veteran Common Motors engineer John Heinricy got here out of retirement to guide growth of the Venom F5.

Probably the most vital distinction from design buck to manufacturing is aerodynamics. The design buck had a coefficient of drag of 0.33 whereas the manufacturing automotive has a 0.39 cd. Hennessey’s group realized throughout aero growth the unique design did not present sufficient downforce within the rear at 300 mph, and the aggressive entrance splitter and rear wing created an excessive amount of drag. The manufacturing automotive’s rear deck was raised 3.9 inches and a smaller rear wing was used to create sufficient downforce at max velocity. The entrance was balanced with a much less aggressive splitter.

Clients who like the unique design buck’s extra aggressive entrance splitter and bigger rear wing can go for the $100,000 Observe Package deal choice, which additionally features a distinctive rear deck because the bigger rear wing attaches to the chassis by the rear bodywork. Each buyer to date has opted for the monitor pack, and Hennessey’s completely satisfied to indicate clients easy methods to swap within the extra aggressive aero equipment. It takes about an hour.

Each one of many 24 Venom F5s constructed will roll off the meeting line in the identical configuration apart from paint, stripes, and the optionally available $300,000 uncovered carbon-fiber physique panels.

The inside of the Venom F5 is sparse. The fixed-back carbon fiber bucket seats are coated in Muirhead leather-based, and a lot of the inside surfaces are uncovered carbon fiber. Each button, swap, knob, and management is situated on the F1-like carbon-fiber steering wheel. A 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster is complimented by a 9.3-inch Alpine touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A separate 1.3-inch touchscreen handles local weather controls.

Every Venom F5 will probably be road authorized by the “Present or Show” guidelines identical to the McLaren Speedtail.

Patrons anyplace on this planet can order the 12 remaining Venom F5s. Of the 12 offered to date, eight are U.S. vehicles and 4 will go abroad.

Hennessey mentioned it would take two to 3 years to construct and ship all 24 Venom F5s, and every hand-built automotive will take 9 to 12 months to finish, however that would drop to 6 months later within the manufacturing run.

The group plans to construct and ship eight vehicles in 2021. Hennessey employed former senior McLaren manufacturing govt David Davis to deal with Venom F5 manufacturing in Sealy.
